Our main production takes place in Tallinn, Estonia, where we can ensure a safe and ethical production. The closeness to the factory means not only limited transportation but also a chance to control that our garments are made in accordance with bellaobastian's values. Our factory in Estonia is located in central Tallinn and includes 20 seamstresses.
20 % of the production is kept in Sweden since it feels important to hold on to Borås long history of textile and tradition of craftsmanship. Tailors in bellaobastian’s studio perform the Swedish production.
SS/12 PRODUCTION
75 % Estonia, Tallinn (Manufacturing) Transportation by truck.
25 % Sweden, Borås (Tailoring) No transportation.
The materials are an important part that contributes to the sustainable mind of bellaobastian. Today 70 % of the fabrics used for AW11 have a minimal environmental impact in both production and transportation. The 100% wool we have used for capes, shirts, trousers, collars and coats is from a Swedish supplier and producer located 500 meters from the studio.
The production of our wool took place in Borås until the year 2005 and today there are enormous quantities of fabric rolls left over which make them a sustainable alternative instead of new production. It is an honour to use local fabrics from a once thriving textile industry.
The fine wool is of the highest quality, therefore it is useful all seasons. Seeing as it will keep you warm in the winter and cool you of in the summertime.
The artificial fibres in bellaobastian’s garments are polyester, elastane and viscose. For these fabrics we are not able to guarantee a 100% ethical and sustainable production although it is important for us to rely on our suppliers. We are currently in the process to improve our material choices in different aspects such as production, transportation and use.
We like to work with materials that grant gentle use and qualities that last a long time. We are however aware of the limitations of being a small business, which make it practically impossible to ensure and control the chain from field to fabric.
